Genevieve Shiroma

Board of Directors

Genevieve Shiroma is President of the Institute for Advancing Unity's Board of Directors.

Governor Gray Davis appointed Ms. Shiroma to Chair the Agricultural Labor Relations Board in May 1999 and was reappointed to the Board by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in March 2006. Previously, she was elected as the Ward 4 representative on the Sacramento Municipal Utility District Board in November 1998, where she has served ever since. Shiroma's experience representing and negotiating between diverse constituencies across the state is a vital asset to The Institute's mission of advancing unity.

Prior to her tenure on the Agricultural Relations Board, Ms. Shiroma was chief of the Air Quality Measures Branch at the California Air Resources Board, responsible for air quality regulations related to consumer products and toxic air contaminants. She also serves on the board of United Way.

A native of Lodi, California, Ms Shiroma earned a Bachelor of Science, Materials Science and Engineering from the University Of California, Davis in 1978.
